A Continuing Education Course for General Dentists, Dental Specialists, Hygienists and Oral Surgeons
Sponsored by Henry Schein Dental & Joan Levy Bisesi Foundation
We want dental partners to be educated in current best practices of oral cancer screening and diagnosis, so an inspection of the teeth is only part of their exams. If a site looks suspicious, they can further analyze, diagnose, and, if necessary, refer for tissue biopsy. In addition, we want dental partners to increase awareness about the risk factors of oral, head and neck cancers.
In this course, participants will learn current methods for oral cancer screening using auto-flourescence technology; know the difference between ulcers, leukoplakia, erythroplakia, and carcinoma; understand anatomical differences and interpret risk factors of oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancers; explain quality of life concern for patients; and much more.
Attendees will receive a completion certificate indicating 3 hours of certified CE credit from Sheri Jolly, Joan Levy Bisesi Foundation representative.
Participants will learn best practices in conducting an oral cancer screening and will be able to:
- Define oral cancer, describe how a tumor develops and spreas, and explain common risk factors.
- Recognize stages and common treatments used to treat oral cancer, and recall the rates of diagnosis and deaths
- Apply the standardized oral cancer examination methods recommended by WHO, CDC and NIH
